Alex, 20, hopes to play for Britain
4:40pm Saturday 26th March 2011
A KEEN sportsman from Fordingbridge has a new goal after being included in the GB football squad for next year’s Paralympics.
Alex Mullin, 20, a former student at The Burgate School, used to play mainstream football for Fordingbridge Town and Fordingbridge Turks.
He is currently studying for a degree in Sports Media at the University College Plymouth St Mark & St John.
Alex, who is captain of the FA-sponsored South West Cerebral Palsy (CP) Regional team, played for England’s CP team in four international matches last week in Ireland, where they won a bronze medal by beating Scotland 3-1 in the third place game.
His father John said: “We believe he is only the second former Turks player to ever have represented England at football.
“CP football is a seven-a-side version of the game aimed at players with mobility problems that arise from birth or are acquired through serious injury but it is played at great intensity and is well worth watching and should be one of the key events in 2012.”
Alex, who hopes to be a sports journalist, said: “The cerebral palsy only affects my left side, and then it’s only really noticeable near the end of the match.
“I’ve only been playing with disabilities teams for five months – before that I just played mainstream.”
Midfielder Alex is one of 22 players selected from all over Great Britain. The final squad of 12 will be chosen next year.
He has been training with the British squad at the National Sports Centre at Lilleshall.
He said: “I really think we’re in with a chance next year, as we are ranked fourth and fifth in the world at the moment.
“Only Russia and the Ukraine have professional teams, so if we get on the podium we’ll have done really well.”

New Beginnings New Friendships
"We do not so much need the help of our friends as the confidence of their help in need."
Dublin will be a memorable tour for me in terms of football and other things.
One thing that i will take away from the tour is that i have made several new friendships.
The photograph above shows a picture of myself, my dad, and George Fletcher.
George is a great young lad with a bright future ahead of him, he just doesn't know it yet. I had a great week with the George. He is a cheeky scouser who is always eager to play and gives his all when he is on the pitch. Sometimes in life you meet someone who truly inspires you, George hasn't had it easy but what a great lad.
Alex Mullin- The England Player
I recently made my international debut for England in Dublin, Ireland.
It was a fantastic tournament in which we finished 3rd overall.
I would like to thank Jeff Davis and Lyndon Lynch for turning my dream into a reality. I hope there is more to come

Practice makes perfect, well almost.
My training has been going well as of late.
Going undefeated in my last two competitions has given me a great boost going into my first international competition.
I literally cannot wait to pull on the three lions jersey, i hope i can carry on my good form into Dublin.
I would like to thank Caroline Brokenshire, for her S and C sessions that seem to be paying off, i appreciate the time people are giving me.
I would also like to thank my mum and dad for their constant support, it really does mean a lot, it will be good to have them on the sideline in Dublin as they are the people i want to perform best for.
The past 5 months have been huge on the football scale, lets hope the hard-work pays off in Dublin.

BIll Shankly....
'Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.'

Glenn Hoddle 1999
You and I have been physically given two hands and two legs and half-decent brains,’ he said. ‘Some people have not been born like that for a reason. The karma is working from another lifetime. I have nothing to hide about that. It is not only people with disabilities. What you sow, you have to reap.’
In 1999 Glenn Hoddle was sacked as manager og England, for comments he made about disabled people. Since then he has slowly drifted into the dusty archives of English football. I am proud to say that i have CP and represent my country, my nation means something to me, and i hope i mean something to my national team, i hope Mr Hoddle comes to watch the team and fully supports the teams at 2012

Try something new today
07/03/2011- Today i felt my had my first feeling of fame in football. I have been contacted by Sainsbury's to be the face of the South West. They are sponsering the Team GB paralympic team for 2012. I have to make four appearances at a store in the South West. I can't wait to get involved.
England Expects
With Irelnd only a week away the nerves have set in.
It hadn't hit me until today that i will representing my country at international level, something i can't wait to do.
I have been given the number 6 shirt for the championships, something that i am honoured to wear as this was my friend Louis' shirt number.

Undefeated weekend
This weekend has given me great confidence going into next weeks international tournament in Dublin.
On Saturday i played a regional tournament in Taunton vs London, London West and the Midlands. I play for the South West we emerged from the tournament as outright winners, winning two games, and drawing one to an experienced London side. I was named as player of the tournament, and scored which is perhaps my best goal to date
"I asked Alex, do you know what your doing? the next thing i knew the ball had been curled brillianlty into the back of the net"- Graham Eyles ( South West Manager)
On Sunday i played for Plymouth Argyle, this was the best tournament we have had as a sqaud, i again went unbeaten, in a display that saw us overcome a great Exeter City side 3-0. We played some fantastic football as a team. " The young lads tour the other teams apart today"
10 games, 9 wins, 1 draw. 7 Goals

Dublin Invitational 15th-20th March 2011
The St. Patricks day invitational will be my first international tournament. This is a great opportunity for me to stake a claim for a place in the Great Britain squad for 2012.
The aim is to win the tournament and play the final at the Tallaght Stadium home of Shamrock Rovers.

one of my favorite football players to have ever graced the game, such skill and class.
Someone who i used to really enjoy watching, i think he is up there with the best players to have ever played the beautiful game...
